This Coffee has traveled the world to get to you! I hope you are as excited as I am for it’s arrival.
Coffee Connects Communities
It really astounds me that coffee cherries are harvested by coffee farmers—often by hand—and processed in their country of origin. The processed green coffee beans then make their way to us with all of their internal potential, ready to be roasted, discovered, and enjoyed by people far, far away from where they began.
There are infinite factors that can determine the flavors you ultimately taste in that coffee: the variety of the coffee plant, the climate and elevation of its origin, the processing methods used, the countless decisions a roaster gets to make, the many ways coffee can be ground, and the various methods through which it can be brewed and extracted.
Honestly, it amazes me how much effort goes into one simple cup of coffee.
Just think about the journey that coffee took to get to your cup.
A whole host of people contributed to that coffee reaching you.
It has been my genuine privilege to be a small part of that structure for more than 20 years—initially as a barista, crafting espresso-based beverages professionally, and more recently as a home roaster, guiding green coffee through its stages of development toward its fullest expression.
Today, I personally roast every batch of Areté coffee myself, for you to discover and enjoy.
Why only one coffee?
You may notice that, for now, Areté has just one coffee available: Papua New Guinea Equanimity.
That’s intentional—and there’s a story behind it.
This coffee has been such a hit with some of my most loyal Areté supporters that I wanted to honor them by making it the first coffee I offer as I take this next step in the journey. They loved it, asked for it, and kept coming back for it. So when it came time to choose where Areté would begin, this coffee felt like the natural place to start.
As a small, growing roastery, I’m choosing to start small and do things well. Rather than trying to offer a dozen coffees at once, I’m focusing on a select few exceptional coffees that I can roast thoughtfully and consistently while I continue building Areté.
I’m excited to soon introduce Eudemonia, an organic Ethiopian coffee. Ethiopia holds a special place in coffee’s story as the birthplace of coffee, and Eudemonia—meaning human flourishing—beautifully reflects the heart behind Areté.
As Areté grows, I hope to offer a carefully curated collection of coffees from around the world, each with its own story, character, and virtue to invite you to cultivate.
For now, Papua New Guinea Equanimity is where the journey begins. Eudemonia is next. And I’m so grateful you’re here for what comes after.
